How do I install the client?

Connect to a Secure Receptor™ enabled network. You will then be invited to install the Secure Receptor™ client.  Confirm that you wish to proceed and it will automatically install. If you decline the invitation, you will not be able to connect to the network.

Can I uninstall the client?

Only with the permission of the person assigned responsibility for security of the network, the “security manager”.

How do I manage permissions for my applications?

This is done by the person assigned responsibility for permissions for all users (the “security manager”) and is managed through a secure web based central console - see PacketDNA’s Configuration Guide guide for details. End-users have no interface and no way of altering or circumventing security policy.

Can I install new applications?

The security manager has to give permissions before a new application will run.

Do I need antivirus if I am running Secure Receptor™ client?

Secure Receptor™'s client can be set to disable all non-approved applications so viruses will not execute. However, this will not prevent viruses from existing within files and potentially infecting other machines. Viruses and Trojans that modify approved applications cannot be prevented from running. An antivirus program is still necessary.

Is installation on the Client machine a Push or Pull process?

Installation on the client machine is a push process.

How much time will backup and recoveries of permissions take?

A very insignificant amount of time. The file is typically around 8 MB.

Can rules or permissions be made as per-user, per-group or both?

The current release offers permissions based upon each client device as well as configurations of permissions for groups.

Is there any client device software requirement?

No specific requirement is needed. Secure Receptor™ installs a small application (B.A.S.E.) that runs on the client system which interacts with the server from time to time. This software is not accessed by the user.
